Do you get frustrated each and every time your computer suddenly turns into a blue screen with all kinds of numbers and letters on it? I feel your pain. Almost everyone who uses a computer has experienced such thing for once in their lives. If you are wondering if your computer is broken, then let me break it to you no, it is not. It is, however, experiencing blue screen errors. This error, more notoriously known as the blue screen of death is an error displayed by a lot of operating systems, most notably the Windows system, once it encounters a critical error. This is a way of preventing more system damage. The usual error message is the one that asks if you have recently installed any kind of software or hardware and asking you to reset your computer. Ctrl + Alt + Del usually works wonders for computer users, but it will not work for the blue screen of death. You probably will end up restarting your computer. This may be a problem for some users who have unsaved data prior to the occurrence of the error.
Installation of software and hardware can sometimes be a cause of blue screen errors over time. Once you installed a program too many on your computer, the whole system may start functioning as slow as a turtle. Some programs that are not really needed are taking too much space in the CPU resources. When this happens, even the simple task of loading the Microsoft Office or opening a window will take forever. The shutting down of the computer will also be a problem.
What are the possible ways of fixing these errors? The most basic way of fixing the blue screen of death is by simply rebooting your computer. You may also shut down the computer and turn it on again after a while. If a reboot works, then you are one lucky person. You may start saving your files on a back-up disk in case the error occurs once again. However, if you belong to the unlucky people who are not able to fix the problem with a simple reboot, there is something more serious within your system.
One of the most effective methods of fixing the blue screen of death is through utilization of a registry cleaner program. A registry is a central database where files of all kinds are being stored. Since people are now very fond of downloading several materials from the Internet and from other resources, they tend to forget the risks involved. Some unwanted programs and files are consuming too much registry space. The registry cleaner will generally clean up the registry, removing all the unimportant programs or files and keeping the ones needed by the computer. Fix the errors if there are any.
If the error still persists after registry cleaner use, go look into your computer's RAM. There are 2 sticks of RAM in the computer. Remove one and see if the computer runs. When you eliminate one of the sticks and the error subsides, it means that the stick of RAM is dysfunctional. What you have to do is buy a new stick. If you, however, tried all of the abovementioned methods and still fail to get rid of the blue screen error, the only thing left to do is to go to a computer shop or have a technician reformat your PC.
Before you go have your PC reformatted and lose all of your necessary files, you better try other ways of fixing the error. Make reformatting your last resort. The Internet is a good source of different methods of fixing blue screen errors. Find one that you can apply on your own to avoid expenses. Finally, once your computer is fixed, prevent the error from occurring again. Avoid downloading unnecessary files to lessen the possibilities of another occurrence of the blue screen of death
Perhaps, the blue screen error is the most annoying PC error that one can experience. Typically, blue screen errors abruptly appear and then sabotage any project that you may be doing at the time of the crash. On this occasion, the Windows displays some error messages that only the techies or experts can comprehend. And you're often left to wonder, what's wrong with my computer?
So, to give you some help in diagnosing as well as fixing the blue screen error, here are some steps to take. These things will also save you from the need to go to a computer repair shop.
1. In order to find the errors, run a registry scanner
Many people who own a computer are not familiar with Windows registry file structure. You must know that it's the core of your whole PC system. And the collection of files there, are details about the hardware, users, and all the software programs that you have installed.
When there is a flaw or some data for a certain program are missing in the registry files, it can lead to dangerous errors in the Windows. By using a registry cleaner, the software will automatically look for any anomalous items in the registry and then repair, take out or put in information if necessary. This tool is available for download in the internet. Just make sure to get it from a reputable site.
2. Inspect some new hardware
If you have installed new hardware, be sure that it was installed properly. This is to avoid losing any information which is important for operating the program that you have added.
3. Restart your computer
There are times when you only have to re-start your computer to correct the problem, however, make sure that the problem is not really serious before trying this solution.
4. See if the hardware and software are compatible with your system
If one of your hardware or software is not compatible with your system, you will definitely get a blue screen. So, be sure that all the programs that you will install will go well with your PC.
5. Take out all the harmful viruses
Some viruses like the Trojan and shockwave viruses can also cause blue screen error. Spywares can also be a problem. To solve this, you must scan your PC and then eliminate all the viruses found.
6. Install the most up to date service pack and system patch for the Windows.
A defective Windows can also trigger the appearance of blue screen. By simply installing the newest. Window's service pack and system patch, you can be able to resolve the error.
Finally, if none of the above works, you have 2 remaining options left: You can reformat your computer. This will erase all the information and programs stored in the CPU. If you want to retain some information, make a back-up copy of all your files before you start with reformatting. You can restore all the files in your computer, after the reformatting is completed.
Finally, your last option is to bring your PC to a computer technician and have him remove the blue screen error. This is your last resort and the best solution when everything else that you've tried failed.
What can be more annoying than to have an error message at the very beginning of your computer usage? You would rather have a busted electrical outlet than to continuously have to endure the blue screen after start-up. And how can you possibly guess the problem if the blue screen is followed instantaneously by a black screen while it reboots? It is as if the computer doesn't want to be fixed at all.
Before you get too furious, you should be thinking of ways on how to read that error message that goes with the blue screen before the computer restarts automatically. If you are able to click some buttons first before the blue screen of death pops up again, make sure that you have unchecked the automatic restart option under the Start Up Settings.
So with that, you will have ample time to read what the error message actually is before it reboots. Knowing the exact error will help you get to the root cause of the problem instead of second guessing the error which only wastes your time while your computer is in critical condition.
Having the blue screen immediately after the start up, means that there must be something wrong with your installations. Since it doesn't happen when the system gets overloaded when you open too many programs, you can start isolating the problem. Once you see the real problem as indicated in the error screen, then you can check online on how to fix it.
If it is not as big of a problem as you think it is, it can probably be resolved easily by running a Startup Repair or by System Restore Utility. Again it can be as effortless as running an anti-virus check or cleaning the registry. And it might just be the power source that has the problem that's why it keeps on rebooting. Check all possible causes from the most obvious before you delve into the trickier aspect of the problem.
Having the BSOD at the very beginning of your computer operation may be a little harder to resolve. And most likely, the blue screen of death has already happened before at random times during a computer operation that you were able to fix by a simple system reboot.
If you have not tried any other means to correct the error like cleaning the registry, running system and anti-virus checks; then the glitch has obviously gotten worse. Rebooting is as good as ignoring the problem and merely hoping that the computer will eventually forget the problem. However, this quick fix may have already caught up with your system. If this is the case, then the rebooting solution has reached its end and it might be better for you to consult a computer technician to correct the problem and salvage your computer from an impending death.
The lesson here is to get the best solution even for the simplest dilemma. You cannot fool the computer too long. Besides, unlike human who can hide their true feelings like the frustration that you feel right now with gritted teeth, computers are not designed that way. The system will falter eventually when not fixed and it can only give you this much evidence like a blue screen that the system is suffering. You better tackle the problem from the start before the computer suffers an untimely death.

Using the internet almost always will mean getting infected with spyware. Any computer that uses the internet will most likely be infected. Even if you have a good antivirus program installed on your computer you are still likely to become infected. There are so many internet sites that require you to accept cookies that even if you do not download anything from the internet you are still likely to become infected.
The smartest and safest way to remove these malicious programs from your computer is to use a program that is designed for just that. There are many spyware removal programs available online that will relieve your system of the bothersome programs. You should make sure you are using a spyware program that is designed for your operating system. If you are using Windows make sure it is made for Windows.
When you have downloaded the spyware removal program you will be given a option to scan your computer for infections. The program will come back with a list of files that it see as threatening your computer. You can check through the list and select the ones you want to remove now or choose to remove the whole list. It is better that you remove the suspected threats one at a time to make sure that you do not remove something your system or a program you use will need to operate correctly.
When you remove each item you should restart your computer to make sure there has been no harm to the systems registry. Making a backup of the registry is a great idea just in case you make a mistake. It will designate programs or files that look and feel like spyware but are actually ones you need for your system to work.
Removing entries from the registry manually is not recommended. You can create errors for the registry beyond repair sometimes with removing just one line. This removal software will sometimes come with a registry cleaner. It is a good idea to use this type of program to know your system is entirely free of the threats. Spyware and other malware programs will often embed themselves in Windows registry making it very tough to remove them. Even though the programs or files can be located by the removal tools they will often not be equipped to remove registry entries. This means that when you restart your system the threat returns.
Windows Vista has several helpful tools that are made for removing malware programs such as spyware and cleaning the registry. A spyware program may be easier to use and more thorough then using these tools. It may or may not offer protection against future malware attacks. You want to be sure that if your program does not that you download one that does. There is no way to eliminate the threat of spyware getting placed on your computer but it is helpful to have software program that will find it as well as remove it once it makes its way there.
Let's get to the important part first - if you've just lost your data, skip past this introduction and go directly to our first tip, so you can start your rescue operation. If not, a few minutes spent now might help you a lot in the future. Pay special attention to our third tip.
I always thought of myself as a reliable guy with reliable data. I never deleted my files accidentally; I made regular backups and had a power supply for my computer to protect me against surges and outages. However last year I experienced two cases of data loss where I needed to use recovery software. The first was a dead hard drive that'd hardly served a year. Subsequently, I accidentally deleted a large project file that was too big for the Recycle Bin. Happily I've got all my data back, thanks to good advice and a little preparation.
These handy tips will help you stay confident in the face of data loss, no matter how it occurs.
Tip #1: Use your system as little as possible until you recover all of your lost files. The more activity taking place on your hard disk, the greater the chance that some of your lost data might be written over.
- Don't copy any files to the disk containing your lost data; - Avoid browsing the web, because your web browser saves cache files on the disk; - Don't launch any unnecessary programs, because they can also use your disk; - Don't restart your computer.
Tip #2: Before you go further, take steps to free up some space on the disk containing your lost files. The more free space your system has, the less chance of overwriting any lost files with new ones. You can do one or more of the following things.
- Delete old files that you don't need anymore (you can also move them to another source, like a USB flash drive, instead of deleting); - Empty your Recycle Bin - making sure that you haven't put any important files in there by mistake; - Empty your browser cache. For Internet Explorer, click on the "Tools" menu, then select "Internet Options". Then, on the "General" tab, click the "Delete Files..." button.
Tip #3: To install any software after data damage increases the risk of your data being overwritten, so if you haven't had any data problems yet, consider installing a data recovery program just in case. Prevention is always better than cure, and a recovery program is good insurance for your data. However, if you don't yet have a recovery program, find one and - if possible - avoid installing it to the disk where your lost files are located.
Most recovery programs work fairly similarly. You need to select the disk where the lost files are located, let the program analyze the content of the disk - this can take a while - and then select the file you want to recover. Then, provide a location where you want to save that file. You should try to avoid recovering files to the same disk. You could use another hard drive, a network or removable media like a floppy disk or USB flash drive.
After you recover your files, check that they are correct. If you've recovered applications, check that they still run, or if you've recovered documents, check that your words are still there. Even the best recovery software can't guarantee 100% results. If some parts of your files were overwritten - meaning that other data was saved to their location on your disk - after recovery they might contain invalid information. Depending on the type of file involved, partially recovered files like this can be mended by special utilities
Watching TV is becoming a forgotten habit among many professionals. It's not that they don't enjoy watching the programs or that they don't care what's on TV, there's simply no time to fit into their very busy schedules. For the frequent travelers and the people who just can't seem to stay home, the challenge is finding the time to watch their favorite TV programs. This is where your laptop computer comes in. Whether you want to tap into your satellite feed or stream your favorite TV show online, you can do so even if you're not staring at a television set. Here are five ways to watch TV on your very own laptop.
Get it free from top TV networks
The leading TV networks offer much of their prime-time lineup online. This means that even without a TV tuner, you can still watch many of your favorite network shows online. NBC, for instance, allows you to view their leading shows online such as 30 Rock, Heroes, and the Tonight Show. Similarly, ABC offers free viewing of their hit shows like Ugly Betty, Lost and Desperate Housewives. You can also do the same with other networks including Fox and CBS. It's really easy to do too; just log on to their official websites and you'll see the link that directs you to the online TV world.
Online video services
The previous option is obviously limited as you can only view TV shows from the top TV networks. If you're looking for more variety, you can partake in free online video services such as Joost. Probably the most popular form of online video service, Joost offers a huge lineup of channels including MTV, National Geographic, Comedy Central and ESPN. However, since the service is free of charge, you don't always get the best of the channels' content. A lot of times it can be choppy and slow, especially with the prime-time shows. You can still get clear and TV quality online shows, but they come with a price. At $19.99 per month, you can subscribe to AT&T Broadband TV. This service is powered by MobiTV and offers live streaming from multiple networks including all Fox networks, The Weather Channel, CBS, ESPN and A&E.
Use a TV tuner
Vista's MediaCenter made all the rage as it allows you to watch and record all your favorite TV shows with just the use of a very portable USB TV Tuner. It can literally turn your laptop into a TV with TiVo as long as you have a laptop with an HD monitor. You can purchase the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950, which lets you watch and easily record any cable TV show, for only $120. Or, if you want to go all hi-tech, go for the ATI TV WONDER 600 as this software allows you to watch and record any cable TV show, as well as manage your media library. You can also literally make your laptop a TV set by using the IR remote included in the software.
Buy it from iTunes
There's always the expensive yet quickest way of doing things, and watching TV on your laptop is no exception. If you don't want to go all technical about this endeavor, you can simply buy TV shows and movies from iTunes. This gives you far greater flexibility because even though buying from iTunes may be far more expensive than the previously managed options, the advantage this is you can get access to all kinds of shows, and not just present ones, but also shows from the past.
Malware is essentially a portmanteau from the words malicious and software. It is a highly dangerous form of virus because it is designed to do significant damage on a computer system without informed consent. This means a computer may crash unknowingly, without any warning whatsoever. Further, malware comes in many different forms such as the popular worms, Trojan horses, spyware, keyloggers and other computer viruses. What makes it more dangerous is that malware can infiltrate a computer system even if there is anti-virus software present. This is because most anti-virus systems are currently not updated and thus equipped to protect such viruses such as malware. The good news is that attacks of malware can be prevented in three easy steps. Make sure you follow the steps below because malware can be very hazardous especially when all your files can no longer be restored.
Always block all pop-ups Pop-up windows and pop-up ads contain spyware, which are dangerous when clicked several times. To prevent this, simply go to the Options menu on your favorite browser and check the box that allows all pop-up windows to be blocked. If your browser cannot do so, you can also do this manually by closing the entire window by clicking the standard x mark located at the top right hand corner of the window if pop-up advertisements start to appear on the screen. More importantly, never ever lick inside the main window, as this will lead you to the unwanted website. Sometimes pop-up ads can be tricky by putting links inside the window that says "click here to close window". Do not fall into this trick; always remember to click outside the pop-up window.
Do not use file sharing programs Apart from legality issues, downloading files from file sharing networks such as Limewire, Kazaa, or Bearshare can do harm on your computer system because file sharing allows your computer to be fully exposed to hackers and unscrupulous internet users all over the world. In fact, most malware attacks originate from file sharing networks. Think of it this way; there is absolutely no way to verify the sources of the files you download, thus the hackers who are looking to spread viruses can do so easily by spreading files. You may stumble upon a file that you are looking for and download it, only to find out that the file was nothing but a virus that can plague your computer system faster than a speeding bullet. The next thing you know is your computer crashes and all your files are lost. Do not take such a risk. Delete all your file sharing programs now before it's too late.
Avoid e-mail attachments from unknown senders If you have downloaded files and other attachments from unknown senders in your e-mail or instant messaging programs, delete them immediately. Make sure you delete them permanently from your computer. If you still see the file in the recycle bin, it's not permanently deleted. Apart from that, discipline yourself to never open e-mail messages from people you do not know. Sometimes you can get spyware by simply opening a restricted webpage. So remember this; unless you know and trust the sender, do not open the message or download its attachments.
The decision to by a new desktop computer or a laptop is not a hugely expensive proposition. However, just as you want to make sure that you wind up with a computer that does its job efficiently and effectively, you want to avoid some of the hazards that can plague hi-tech gadgets. You need to have adequate knowledge about the ins and outs of buying a computer because it can save you both time and money, as well as spare you with the hassles and loss of productivity when you make the wrong choice. Consider some of these points when purchasing a new desktop or laptop computer.
Budget How much can you afford to spend? Given today's economic crisis, this is the single most important question when buying. Just because there are many financing methods in purchasing a computer, it doesn't mean you can buy the really expensive ones. Unless you are confident you can pay for it, do not bother choosing credit over cash again. Determine the right budget for your computer, and have the willpower to stay within that budget.
Function What is the computer for? Think about your personal intended function. A businessman may have different ideals about his computer from that of a college student. A teenager may want a computer built for hours and hours of fun with computer games, while a filmmaker may want to have an enormous storage space for his movie files. Some models have functions that you do not need and will add to the cost. A laptop with all the features and hi-tech accessories may seem cool, but you may just be wasting your hard-earned dollars.
Ergonomics How does it feel when you use it? Are you comfortable with its size and weight? Do your fingers fit perfectly unto the keyboard? Make sure the laptop makes it easy for you to use. Just as you need to test drive a car, you need to test type your computer.
Finance There are many sad stories about people being trapped in high interest finance arrangements, as well horror stories about fraudulent acts done by unscrupulous financiers. Avoid this by entering into completely legitimate dealerships. Even if the interest rate would be higher than the usual, make sure you will be dealing with safe financiers. After all, you can't put a price tag on security.
Warranty How long is the warranty period? Obviously, you would want a longer period. Many people do not realize how important the warranty is until the day the computer needs to be repaired, and often it's already too late as the warranty has expired. Read the fine print and don't hesitate to ask questions with your dealer. Make sure you get a good deal from the warranty. Take advantage of it; you might regret it when it expires.
Use the software to convert your document to the electronic book format. Make your e-book available from your website. Note that even should you want to sell your e-book, you must still have a sample of your e-book available freely to whet the appetites of your prospective customers
The Common Ebook Formats
Portable Document Format ( PDF )
The PDF format has the advantage that it can be read on any platform: there are free PDF spectators for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, UNIX (varied), handheld computers (PDA), and so on. Many off-the-shelf computer systems are typically sold with the reader pre-installed. E-books in this format function kind of like a real book - they're portable.
Familiarity with the PDF is another advantage of this format. In fact, on a number of commercial business-to-business sites, many documents and white papers are available only in PDF.
There are many free PDF converters and editors available. If you would like a reliable, commercial version, nothing trumps Adobe Acrobat pro, from the company that created the PDF format.
Raw HTML Format
The raw HTML format is self-explanatory. The major downside of this strategy is if you require more than one file for your book, some readers may become confused and not know which file to start with.
To form files in such format, simply use whatever software that you now use to create your site, be it free software like Nvu and KompoZer or commercial editors like Dreamweaver. Of course, if there are multiple pages, you may probably need to distribute your e-book in some sort of archive format, like in a zip file, and give instructions to your readers how they can unpack the file, and which file to click on to start reading.
Publishing electronic books can offer you an additional money stream (if you're selling them) and a means of pushing your website (there’s nothing like a freebie to attract people to your internet site or business). In a time when millions of sites are competing for the same audience, every little bit helps.
Besides desiring to immortalize your name, here are a couple of reasons why you may want to publish your own electronic book.
Publicity for your website or business
Of course, for that to occur, your e-book should be more than simply an advertising leaflet - it actually has to have something worth reading for people to bother to read and pass it on.
For Sale
Electronic books for sale are becoming increasingly common on the internet. As discussed earlier, even Stephen King has taken to publishing electronically. It's becoming an acceptable medium in this age of electronic communication.
Whether you sell or distribute 1000 copies of your e-Book or simply one copy, your value of manufacturing the electronic book remains at that same fixed cost it took to produce the 1st copy. Actually, once you've purchased your software, you can produce any amount of E-books without shouldering any extra cost.
As in the case of publishing newsletters, you must naturally write on things you're familiar with. If your intention is to publicize your internet site or your business, your subject should of course be related to what you're promoting. That way, folk will come to see you as knowledgeable in that field and go to your internet site for more info and help
As a professional, most of your income comes from product sales, and those sales are moving online. In addition to selling physical products on the internet, the Net offers a special opportunity for income from high-markup e-books. An e-book is a paper book except that it exists only electronically.
Why would you would like to find out how to make an e-book? For one thing, having a book gives you extra credibility as an expert. If you do not would like to sell your electronic book at once, you can make it an extra benefit for someone that buys another one of your products promptly -'act by midnight tonight and you will receive these extraordinary extra offers...'
See how many people join the tele-seminars you are providing on the same topic. If your book and the others are complementary, you may be able to work out joint ventures with the other writers to cross promote each other's books.
How much difficulty is it to discover how to make an e-book? Quite small, for a public speaker. Someone is giving speeches, classes, conventions, and tele-seminars. Get a recording, hire someone to write down it, and edit the transcription into a book. If one speech or tele-seminar doesn't give you enough material, put together the transcripts from 2 or more on different facets of the same subject.
What do you have to do to turn a transcript into an e-book? Of course you should edit it carefully. You should format it attractively. You can format it in a traditional text editor like Microsoft Word or Open Office Write.
Use 6' x 9' pages, which are less difficult to view on a {computer|P. C. PC screen. Use line-and-a-half or double spacing. You can start subheadings on the next page - you are not wasting paper. When you've got the body of the book correctly formatted, save it in sequel form.
You can make a cover with an image editor, or you can outsource it. Save the cover in Postscript.
Load the postscript file for the cover followed by the sequel file for the contents into a PDF creation program. Merge the 2 files, set the access rights, save the file in PDF, and you have your e-book. Since it's so simple and inexpensive to create an electronic book, there's no reason not to learn how to make an e-book.

Adding a hard drive simply means establishing connection between the external hard disk and the computer. You don't need to install any compatible drivers for the external hard drive to run. Just plug in its cable in the USB socket on the CPU. It will automatically get installed and connected. The installation process would hardly take around 30 seconds after it is connected to the PC. In many cases, an auto-play window appears which has an option to view the contents or play them in a particular audio or video player. If this window does not appear, you may go to the 'My Computer' option to view the external hard drive. It would be displayed as a removable drive that can be used for transferring data. You can then use it to cut, copy, delete, or paste any kind of data.
Remove an External Hard Drive
When the external hard drive is connected to the computer, a specific icon will appear on the right side of the taskbar below. You need to follow the recommended procedure to remove it properly. If it is just pulled out from the USB socket without ejecting it from the program, it may be damaged. You can eject it by right-clicking on the drive icon in the 'My Computer' window, or by right-clicking on the taskbar icon too.
I hope by now you must have learned how to use an external hard drive. Before purchasing one, make sure how much storage capacity you would need. If you're not sure about how much space your data will consume, just request the salesperson to help you out as to how much memory would you actually need. Using an external hard drive is certainly as simple as using a pen drive.
